So… I’m Moving To Amsterdam

Picture

As some of you might know, especially if you follow me on twitter, that I am moving to Amsterdam next week… I’m going to study Fashion and Management at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute for 4 years. This is a huge step for me, moving to an entirely new city in a whole new country that speaks another language…! A year ago, the idea of going to university in this country was a scary prospect, let alone going to a different country, but even though I still have a few things to sort out, I feel ready to take it on.

A few (fashion related) reasons why I’m excited to go…

1. Amsterdam is the home of über-blogger Andi from Style Scrapbook and her posts often feature really interesting and beautiful parts of the city.

2. Amsterdam Fashion Week is home to some great emerging design talents and some awesome established brands, I’m really looking forward to being in the city when there will be a ton of fashion editors, models and bloggers around. I also think that my uni is pretty heavily involved in fashion week, so who knows, I might be involved in some way?!

3. Dutch style is so diverse, when I went for my interview I saw loads of great street style. People in Amsterdam seem to have an “I’m wearing this, and what?” kind of attitude which is awesome.

4. Amsterdam is a biking city! People bike everywhere in any weather, in 5 inch heels.

Now a few other reasons…

1. It’s Amsterdam.

2. It’s an international course, and I will be living in student halls with other international students, so hopefully I’ll be making loads of new friends from all over the world…

3. Living in a different country is a huge challenge, having to live on my own and not have my parents as a safety blanket anymore, it’ll be a huge test for me, but hopefully it will be a positive experience!

What has challenged you recently?

Alice + Olivia Spring 2012

Today I’m bringing you a lovely fashion video from Alice + Olivia to brighten up your monday morning, I mean who doesn’t love playing dress up whilst sipping on pink champagne ? There are some great looks in this video, but the item that caught my eye the most was the floral shorts. I am just loving these at the moment, I bought some floral denim shorts at Forever 21 when I was in London recently, but I really love the more tailored ones in this video, both the floral and striped pairs. I am also feeling the candy pink hair, though I don’t think it would look too good on me…

What is your favorite look from the video?

Sunday Summary #1

This is exciting stuff, I’ve finally decided that I’m going to be a good blogger and actually try and introduce some sort of posting schedule to my blog (shock horror I know) and I figure the best way to get this started is a sunday night round up post of what I’ve been doing this week. Especially as I mainly post editorials and things like that, this gives you guys an exciting glimpse into the rock and roll life that I lead…

So.. on with the show..

1. Last ever french lesson, really sad but I can’t say I’ll miss it too much, lets just say, french- not exactly my strong point. 2. My messy desk, mainly because of revision, but also a bit to do with me being really messy. 3. When I decided to actually tidy my desk I found this wonderful photo book my friends got my for my 18th, full of dreadful pictures of me… (yes that is me on a slide meant for kids… don’t ask!) 4. The worlds biggest steak, I didn’t eat it all (promise!).

This week, I have also discovered the best gym album ever this, Watch the Throne by Jay-Z and Kanye West has kept me motivated on the cross trainer this week. It has also been getting me exited for BBC Radio 1′s Hackney Weekend, which is in like 2 months!

Link Love

  • This lovely post from a blog I have just started reading, absolutely adore the skirt she is wearing.
  • Joined StumbleUpon this week, which is probably not my best idea with exams so close, but I found these amazing posts on street art, absolutely blown my mind, check them out here and here. Also if you want to follow(?) me, you can do that by clicking right here!
  • A Fashionista.com post from a while ago, talking about how Sarah Burton is a fashion bad ass, I mean, could you look into Anna Wintour’s eyes and lie about the royal wedding dress?
  • ELLE joined in with the royal anniversary celebrations by writing a post on various paper gifts suitable for the royal couple

And… I’m done, not too bad for a first attempt!

What have you been doing this week?

Take Me to the Beach

Photos

After seeing this beautiful editorial whilst browsing tumblr, I headed over to the Harpers Bazaar website to have a look at the whole thing. It is stunning and it has me pining for summer, even though its raining loads here at the moment. My exams start this week and then after that I’m lucky enough to be heading to the south of France for a couple of days with my mum and my sister, where I imagine myself strolling around the beaches of Biarritz in some Jason Wu shorts. Though more realistically, I will probably be getting sunburnt and wondering how on earth I’m going to get all of the sand out my shoes.

What are your plans for this summer?

Fashion Flashback- Lanvin’s Dancing Models

I was browsing through some fashion videos on YouTube and I came across this amazing Lanvin advert. Such a clever piece of marketing from the french fashion house, when it was released last year it was all over the internet, I saw tweets, Facebook posts as well as blogs about it. If you like this, you should check out the video for the Lanvin x H+M collaboration, which is a bit bizzare, but weirdly addictive…

Go figure…

Model Of The Moment- Karlie Kloss

Whilst preparing for my interview at AMFI, i was flicking through an old copy of i-D (love that this counts for interview preparation) and I came across an interview with Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn, both amazing beautiful. The interview was really sweet and fun, read some of it here. Anyway, I realised that I had seen Karlie’s face a million times before, numerous campaigns as well as a ton of editorials, I featured one on this blog not that long ago..

She is so striking and I am pleased that I see her more and more on the runway, in fact this last season she was wearing the closing look to many collections.

Who is your favorite model?

Runway- Bora Aksu AW12

Having been introduced to Bora Aksu last London Fashion Week, I was really interested to see what they would present in the AW show. I didn’t manage to watch the livestream, however I did manage to catch up with the show on the Vogue website.

Something I really liked about the show, was how it started with gentle colours, peach, charcoal grey and baby pink, then smoothly transitioned into more bold colours, sunset orange, red and hot pink. However, the thing that I liked the most about the show, was the use of the bold, floral print, particularly on the tights.

The floral pattern actually looks a lot like a pattern you might find on a Laura Ashley wallpaper… I wouldn’t have thought that it would look so striking on clothing!

What did you think of the Bora Aksu presentation?

Burberry Prorsum Menswear Fall ’12

A bit of a different post today! I don’t usually cover menswear on this blog, mainly because I don’t really know much about it. But after watching the Burberry show yesterday I couldn’t resist sharing it with you guys. I really liked the patterned jumpers paired with suits, a kind of country meets city idea. As someone that lives in the countryside, I will always have a soft spot for the flat cap, very, farmer chic?

Which is your favorite look?

It’s not easy being green…

Photos via Tumblr

I’ve recently developed a love for intense green dresses, emerald is my new favorite colour. I just think that an evening gown in a rich green just looks so glamorous and elegant, I’m starting to shop around for my leavers ball dress and I think green may be the way to go?
