On My Travels- Brussels

A couple of weeks ago I went to Brussels with uni for a couple of days to visit the European Commission and the lingerie company Van der Velde. When we weren’t busy walking around the whole of the EU offices trying to find the right entrance, we had some free time to explore the city.

I had never been to Brussels before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. What I found was a charming city that had book shops and art at every corner, I could definitely see myself living there at some point, it just felt like ‘me’.

It wouldn’t be a proper trip without a visit to an adorable tea shop now would it?

Playlist #1- Chilled Out Christmas Break

A few songs that I have been playing a lot over this Christmas break, something a bit more chilled than I’ve been into at the moment (lets blame the boyfriend and his love of house music for that). Dutch people are so into techno and electronic music I don’t ever listen to any new indie stuff, just the same old Haim and Arctic Monkey’s albums that I think I have listened to possibly 100 times each.

On a related note, I was chatting to my 13 year old cousin about how everyone at her school wants to be so indie and it reminded me of the good old Bebo days when everyone would ‘like’ (is that even the right Bebo term?) all these bands to look really cool and indie. Makes me laugh to think that times haven’t changed that much…

Speaking of Bebo, I remember some of the stuff I had on there and even just the idea of it makes me cringe so badly, I’m very glad that account is buried and gone, no one needs to see the quiz that I wrote titled ‘R U My Boi???’

Christmas Time

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and are tucking into to some lovely bubble and squeak today, watching the telly and hanging out with your loved ones. For me, tradition continued with 13 round the table for Christmas dinner, followed by some gift giving and general cheer.

I was lucky enough to get a DLSR from my wonderful parents, I had been wanting one for a while ever since my film camera decided to give up and I lost my digital point and shoot. I got a Canon EOS 1100D, which is perfect for anyone (like me) who wants to improve their photography without breaking the bank. I had a play around with it yesterday and I want to share some of the photos that I took, including what I think might be the first ever picture of me on this blog!

Every christmas we have more puddings than anyone can even imagine, there is a serious sweet tooth that runs in my family and we are all a victim to it. The pavlova is always my favourite, so crunchy and soft all at the same time, even better with the fruit and the cream. Who can resist something that looks so delicious?!

I am wearing a dress from ASOS that my housemate bought but decided against it when it arrived, so I quickly snatched that up. My cardigan is from Urban Outfitters and my shoes are from Clarks.

Hope you all had a very merry christmas and I hope I’m talking to you before the new year!

So, it’s been a while

I’m not really sure who I am addressing this to, I’m pretty sure there isn’t anyone left. No worries, I will just talk to myself and maybe pick up some strays along the way?

Since my last post, my life has changed pretty dramatically, I have moved to another country, started fashion school, moved in and out of student accommodation and into my new apartment, managed to snag myself a boy (god knows how I managed that) and generally took at bit of a 180 in terms of my thoughts on fashion, the industry and my abilities.

In the past year and a bit, I have had my fair share of ups and downs, 3am skype calls to the best friend and ‘oh my god I can’t believe I passed’ moments. Through this, one this became clear, hard work gets you everywhere.

When I started at AMFI, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Fashion buying was it for me, I didn’t really consider anything else. Well, remember what I said earlier about changing my opinion about basically everything? This was no exception.

After floating around for a while without any ideas of what I was interested in, I realised that I had a real interest in magazines. Not just any old thing picked up from the shelves of WHSmiths… Magazines with interesting concepts, amazing editorials and thought provoking articles. Magazines that only come out twice a year and that are heavy as books, focusing on architecture, design, fashion or anything else creative.

Now I’m still working out what I want to do, so I thought I would use this blog to create posts about fashion and probably lifestyle too so I can really get a feel for what suits me…

Posts probably wont be regular (but thats not exactly new), but I will try for at least once a week…

Thats all for know,

So… I’m Moving To Amsterdam

As some of you might know, especially if you follow me on twitter, that I am moving to Amsterdam next week… I’m going to study Fashion and Management at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute for 4 years. This is a huge step for me, moving to an entirely new city in a whole new country that speaks another language…! A year ago, the idea of going to university in this country was a scary prospect, let alone going to a different country, but even though I still have a few things to sort out, I feel ready to take it on.

A few (fashion related) reasons why I’m excited to go…

1. Amsterdam is the home of über-blogger Andi from Style Scrapbook and her posts often feature really interesting and beautiful parts of the city.

2. Amsterdam Fashion Week is home to some great emerging design talents and some awesome established brands, I’m really looking forward to being in the city when there will be a ton of fashion editors, models and bloggers around. I also think that my uni is pretty heavily involved in fashion week, so who knows, I might be involved in some way?!

3. Dutch style is so diverse, when I went for my interview I saw loads of great street style. People in Amsterdam seem to have an “I’m wearing this, and what?” kind of attitude which is awesome.

4. Amsterdam is a biking city! People bike everywhere in any weather, in 5 inch heels.

Now a few other reasons…

1. It’s Amsterdam.

2. It’s an international course, and I will be living in student halls with other international students, so hopefully I’ll be making loads of new friends from all over the world…

3. Living in a different country is a huge challenge, having to live on my own and not have my parents as a safety blanket anymore, it’ll be a huge test for me, but hopefully it will be a positive experience!

What has challenged you recently?

Alice + Olivia Spring 2012

Today I’m bringing you a lovely fashion video from Alice + Olivia to brighten up your monday morning, I mean who doesn’t love playing dress up whilst sipping on pink champagne ? There are some great looks in this video, but the item that caught my eye the most was the floral shorts. I am just loving these at the moment, I bought some floral denim shorts at Forever 21 when I was in London recently, but I really love the more tailored ones in this video, both the floral and striped pairs. I am also feeling the candy pink hair, though I don’t think it would look too good on me…

What is your favorite look from the video?

Sunday Summary #1

This is exciting stuff, I’ve finally decided that I’m going to be a good blogger and actually try and introduce some sort of posting schedule to my blog (shock horror I know) and I figure the best way to get this started is a sunday night round up post of what I’ve been doing this week. Especially as I mainly post editorials and things like that, this gives you guys an exciting glimpse into the rock and roll life that I lead…

So.. on with the show..

1. Last ever french lesson, really sad but I can’t say I’ll miss it too much, lets just say, french- not exactly my strong point. 2. My messy desk, mainly because of revision, but also a bit to do with me being really messy. 3. When I decided to actually tidy my desk I found this wonderful photo book my friends got my for my 18th, full of dreadful pictures of me… (yes that is me on a slide meant for kids… don’t ask!) 4. The worlds biggest steak, I didn’t eat it all (promise!).

This week, I have also discovered the best gym album ever this, Watch the Throne by Jay-Z and Kanye West has kept me motivated on the cross trainer this week. It has also been getting me exited for BBC Radio 1′s Hackney Weekend, which is in like 2 months!

Link Love

  • This lovely post from a blog I have just started reading, absolutely adore the skirt she is wearing.
  • Joined StumbleUpon this week, which is probably not my best idea with exams so close, but I found these amazing posts on street art, absolutely blown my mind, check them out here and here. Also if you want to follow(?) me, you can do that by clicking right here!
  • A Fashionista.com post from a while ago, talking about how Sarah Burton is a fashion bad ass, I mean, could you look into Anna Wintour’s eyes and lie about the royal wedding dress?
  • ELLE joined in with the royal anniversary celebrations by writing a post on various paper gifts suitable for the royal couple

And… I’m done, not too bad for a first attempt!

What have you been doing this week?

Take Me to the Beach

After seeing this beautiful editorial whilst browsing tumblr, I headed over to the Harpers Bazaar website to have a look at the whole thing. It is stunning and it has me pining for summer, even though its raining loads here at the moment. My exams start this week and then after that I’m lucky enough to be heading to the south of France for a couple of days with my mum and my sister, where I imagine myself strolling around the beaches of Biarritz in some Jason Wu shorts. Though more realistically, I will probably be getting sunburnt and wondering how on earth I’m going to get all of the sand out my shoes.

What are your plans for this summer?

Fashion Flashback- Lanvin’s Dancing Models

I was browsing through some fashion videos on YouTube and I came across this amazing Lanvin advert. Such a clever piece of marketing from the french fashion house, when it was released last year it was all over the internet, I saw tweets, Facebook posts as well as blogs about it. If you like this, you should check out the video for the Lanvin x H+M collaboration, which is a bit bizzare, but weirdly addictive…

Go figure…

Model Of The Moment- Karlie Kloss

Whilst preparing for my interview at AMFI, i was flicking through an old copy of i-D (love that this counts for interview preparation) and I came across an interview with Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn, both amazing beautiful. The interview was really sweet and fun, read some of it here. Anyway, I realised that I had seen Karlie’s face a million times before, numerous campaigns as well as a ton of editorials, I featured one on this blog not that long ago..

She is so striking and I am pleased that I see her more and more on the runway, in fact this last season she was wearing the closing look to many collections.

Who is your favorite model?
